Emilia Clarke, Dwayne Johnson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus recreate HBO ‘sound’ (video)

HBO is in the midst of one of their most extensive marketing campaigns we’ve seen for some of their scripted content, and we have to give them some credit for being unique … and for being fun. The video below is something we never would’ve thought of, but it exemplified the network making great use of some of their talent and coming up with an idea that perfectly suits their brand and something that they’ve built up for years.

Odds are that if you’ve watched HBO over the years, you’re familiar with how they open every show — with a little bit of static, and then an iconic sound effect that sounds almost like the same cartoon sound effect that you get when the clouds open up and the sun shines on you from the heavens.

In this video, the folks over at the network find a way to get some of their top talent to recreate a little bit of this effect, whether it be people like Dwayne Johnson of Ballers fame to Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Veep to even Evan Rachel Wood from Westworld. John Oliver rants about it in his signature style, and you get a huge assembly of Game of Thrones cast members including Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and others. The presence of Kristian Nairn as Hodor is a very nice touch, especially given that character’s arc on the fantasy epic.

HBO is at a point now where they are starting to get into the bulk of the programming the remainder of the year. The final season of The Leftovers is going to be premiering on April 16, and from there you’ll get Veep and Silicon Valley in the month, as well. Game of Thrones is not airing until the summer this year, but you have some other great shows to look forward to including Johnson’s sports comedy, the return of Insecure (earlier this year, no less), Vice Principals later in the fall, and of course a wide array of different movies and sporting events. We don’t want to sound like a corporate robot for HBO, but this is a fun ad — it shows off the personalities of their talent while almost poking fun of itself at the same time.
