American Crime Story season 3 spoilers: Ricky Martin joins cast

American Crime Story

American Crime Story season 3 continues to add to its superstar casting, and there are few superstars out there at the level of one Ricky Martin.

Today, FX confirmed that the legendary singer is going to be appearing over the course of the season in the role of Antonio D’Amico, the longtime partner of Gianni Versace, the famed designer whose murder is the center of the story. Edgar Ramirez has already been cast to play the role of Gianni, while Penelope Cruz is set to play his sister Donatella Versace. Meanwhile, Glee alum Darren Criss is attached to take on the role of Andre Cunanan, the serial killer who is a key component all his own.

This is not the first time that Martin has worked in collaboration with show executive producer Ryan Murphy. He previously guest-starred in a fun role on Glee, which was in turn the last time that he took on a major scripted TV role. Currently, Martin is performing in Las Vegas, and we even got a small sense of that earlier this week when Artem Chigvintsev and his celebrity partner Nancy Kerrigan paid him a visit in order to work on some Latin dance moves.

The third season will air new episodes in 2018, following Katrina: American Crime Story, the second iteration. It’s also set to air new episodes next year. The show may be taking its time to get to this point, but we’re certainly thrilled to learn a little bit more about both of these shows. Given that the first season The People v. OJ Simpson was probably the best thing on TV in 2016, it’s fair to say that anticipation is high. We’ll admit that we’re probably more excited about season 3 than we are about season 2, largely due to the fact that murder mysteries are to us at the heart of what American Crime Story is about more so than natural disasters.
