The Blacklist season 4 spoilers: Reddington’s foe; Ressler’s big episode

It feels like we haven’t had much in the way of Blacklist season 4 spoilers regarding Ressler in a long time. With that, let’s remedy that for a moment courtesy of some of the first details from the April 27 installment “Philomena.”

Not too long ago, it was reported that Enrique Murciano was going to be appearing in a major role near the end of the season as a former colleague of Diego Klattenhoff’s character, and this is going to be his debut. It’s not clear as of yet if this character will be a friend or foe, but his arrival should help to give you more of a sense of Ressler’s past and what drives him now as a member of the Task Force. As we get near the end of the season, it makes sense to give Ressler more of a spotlight, especially since we assume he’ll be more involved in the story now with Liz Keen working in closer association with the FBI.

As for the episode’s title, “Philomena” is certainly an unusual name for the show to go with given that much of its association now has to do with a 2013 movie. Yet, the show is likely looking to relate its title back to the Greek princess, or maybe even the Urban Dictionary definition of a sweet, beautiful, and intelligent woman. (This may be the first time we’ve cited Urban Dictionary in over five years of writing at CarterMatt.) This may be related to one of the targets of the episode, an “artful” bounty hunter (per NBC) who is going after Reddington’s associates. It’s certainly possible, even likely, that this is tied in some way to what is going on at present with Dembe Zuma. Odds are, there will be some answers about Dembe’s motivations coming during the “Dembe Zuma” episode on April 20.

One of the bigger questions beyond the individual stories coming up is precisely how this story could end for the season. We’re expecting some more surprises, and with the future of the franchise uncertain, we like to picture that the writers are going to try to end things off with a pretty big bang.
