Stephen Colbert addresses Bill O’Reilly on The Late Show (video)

O'Reilly

For Stephen Colbert and The Late Show, there may not be too much of an incentive to discuss Bill O’Reilly and the recent reports around allegations of sexual harassment. This is someone who Colbert’s interviewed many times, and the entire premise of The Colbert Report was a satirical perspective on shows like The O’Reilly Factor. Colbert knows O’Reilly, and while he definitely doesn’t advocate anything he does, it’s not something that he clearly wanted to focus on — until last night.

Now that we’ve watched the video below, it feels almost more like Colbert was storing up all of his energy towards O’Reilly so that he could shoot off a fireball, similar to how Mega Man charges up his powers before unleashing an attack on some of his opponents. He went after the embattled Fox News host last night over the scandal, especially through the lens of Donald Trump’s recent support of him. Specifically, he noted that Trump, a man previously accused of sexual harassment on several occasions, is not the “perfect person” to defend someone in a similar boat. He also noted that because of the amount of time he’s spent mocking O’Reilly over the years, it’s not a subject he finds himself wanting to discuss too much at length here.

Colbert’s take on the subject is funny, and also probably more important than many other late-night hosts just because he’s spoken with O’Reilly on occasion in the past.

In this video, Stephen also dives into the subject of Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi commercial, and the response that led to it being pulled. The company’s now apologized, but there are probably going to be many more jokes about it coming in the next week or so. The comments write themselves, and the fact that anyone ever thought that the specific circumstances of the ad, whether it be the writing or featuring Jenner, would be appealing is fairly appalling.

All in all, we’d say that this is probably the must-watch late-night video of the week … or at least since Sunday, when we saw the latest edition of Late Week Tonight with John Oliver. Few people are able to craft must-watch videos quite like him on a weekly basis.

What do you think about Colbert’s take on O’Reilly and that scandal? Are you glad that he addressed it? Share now in the comments.
