Outlander season 3 episode count remaining at 13
In a post on Twitter, executive producer Maril Davis did her part to put the minds of almost everyone at ease by confirming, once more, that the episode count for season 3 is staying at 13. Usually when we do some of these pieces “cleaning up on aisle rumor,” we like to figure out where it started. Here, we don’t really have a good idea where things actually started to circulate that the episode order was being cut down to ten. In the end, that probably doesn’t matter given that the important thing is that you’re still getting thirteen individual stories, just like you did during season 2.
In some ways, you can argue that the length of filming is proof alone that we’re getting thirteen episodes — otherwise, wouldn’t everyone be done sooner? When you’re thinking here in terms of cable series, Outlander tends to have longer seasons than many other ones due these days. Two other Starz shows in Power and Black Sails are situated over at around the ten-episode mark, while The Leftovers is airing an eight-episode final season while Game of Thrones is dropping all the way down to seven. We’re grateful for however many Outlander episodes that Starz is willing to offer up, and one of the other great things to remember here is that thirteen episodes of this show often equals around 15-17 episodes of some other cable series, which tend to only run for around 40-42 minutes with commercials. You’re getting almost a full hour here every time, and sometimes you get one that runs over like we did during “Dragonfly in Amber.” That’s a lot of top-quality content! The episode length is something that we often do take for granted within the premium-cable era.
Season 3 is at the moment filming in South Africa, which you probably know already if you’ve been reading the site on any sort of regular basis. We’ve done our part to provide as many different isolated updates on the subject as we can, and that is definitely something that we’re planning on continuing moving into the weeks ahead. Hopefully, somewhere along the line there will be more teasers of some variety to share.
Oh, and hopefully Outlander continues to be thirteen episodes forever. It may be a long wait between seasons, but we’ve got every reason to believe that it’ll be worthwhile.
