Chicago PD season 4 episode 17 review: Meet Jay Halstead’s wife
Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD started out with a cute, but confusing moment between one of our favorite couples – Lindsay and Halstead. Lindsay woke up to find her man gone and when she catches up with him at work, he tells her that’s he went to the gym to clear his head. What’s on his mind? Even though he’s the one in this relationship that’s usually a little more open with his feelings, this time he’s shut up tight, which to us means that something is really wrong.
Will shows up at the station to talk to his brother, warning him that Abby is in town and she’s looking for him. We are thinking that Abby must be an ex of Jay’s after Will asks him if Lindsay “knows about the two of them”, to which he answers that she doesn’t. This can’t end well. When Abby shows up at his work asking him to sign divorce papers we are all confused, including Jay who thought he had signed these papers 8 years ago. She tells him that she didn’t sign them so they never went through, but now that she’s getting married she wants a divorce…. or does she? When Jay asks her to bring out the papers for him to sign, she asks him to go for a drink and sign them then. He reluctantly agrees and we are left screaming at our television sets – especially when we see that she’s not wearing any kind of engagement ring!
After seeing multiple texts coming into Jay’s phone from Abby, Lindsay decides to confront him saying that she’s been waiting for him to tell her who this woman is, but since he hasn’t come clean, she’s asking. He reveals that he and Abby were on deployment together and later met up again at a funeral in Las Vegas. They were both really shook up by what happened and ended up getting married. Lindsay is shocked that she’s only hearing about this marriage now and realizes that he was never going to tell her. It’s a pretty significant part of his life, even if it was a whirlwind decision to get hitched. He married this person! Not only that but when Jay meets Abby for a drink it all comes out that she’s not getting married and she doesn’t have the divorce papers. She tells him that she loves him and he lets her down easy, but with no divorce papers signed, what does this actually mean?
To say that Olinsky is having a bad time is an understatement. When we last saw him he lost his daughter, but tonight he’s back at work. Voight tries to tell him to go home, take time and mourn his daughter, but Olinsky wants to keep busy because he’s worried that if he doesn’t keep occupied that he’s going to end up in a ditch somewhere. While everyone is trying to be sympathetic to Olinsky and give their support, seeing Ruzek ask him if he can give him a hug might’ve been the most awkward show of support ever since Al is not a hugger. This was easily our favorite moment of the episode though.
We were hoping for a happier ending when it came to Lindsay and Halstead tonight, but he packed a bag and left to stay with his brother and we aren’t exactly sure why. Lindsay knows the whole story, she knows he’s still got to get divorced and she’s offered to help support him through all of this, so why did he leave? This is the time to have your partner support you the most and Lindsay is offering all of that. Halstead is confused by everything and frankly so are we. Episode grade: B
