Latest on Big Little Lies, Feud: Bette & Joan cable ratings

Bette & Joan cable ratings

Because of a Nielsen glitch that took place earlier this week (plus us having to deal with some other subjects), we had to wait a little longer to bring you the latest Big Little Lies and Feud: Bette & Joan cable ratings … but we’ve got them for you now!

Let’s start by discussing Feud, mostly because those are the more interesting of the two following its second episode. After all, the show actually dropped all the way from a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic down to a 0.3 for its second episode. Remember that we’re talking here only about the live+same day data, so it’s possible that some of these viewers shifted over to DVR after catching the first one live. This tends to happen often especially with shows that are airing at the 10:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot on any given night.

Regardless of whatever the ratings may be this season (it also slide from 2.3 to around 1.3 million live viewers), the big thing that it has going for it is that it’s already been renewed for a second season. We also think that this is the sort of show that will be watched heavily after the fact. There’s nothing about it that will surprise people, after all, and that may eliminate some of the need for appointment viewing.

Nonetheless, let’s see how it fares on Sunday night before writing the book here completely…

As for Big Little Lies…

The latest episode of the HBO series ended up generating in the live+same day numbers a 0.4 rating in the demo (not that this matters nearly as much for an ad-supported network) and then also 1.04 million viewers. These are great numbers for this show, or at least in our mind given that it’s pay-TV and it’s also still a show working to find its audience. It’s been very consistent from one week to the next, and it will probably only continue to build as the show goes along.

While we’re not sure what the future would hold beyond this season (after all, this is an adaptation seemingly with a beginning, middle, and end), the success of this show could spawn further projects and continue a great relationship between the network and David E. Kelley.
