America’s Next Top Model cycle 24: Tyra Banks returning as host
Personally, this news leaves us somewhat divided. While in some ways we do understand the need to dip into nostalgia, the show also benefited from a fresh coat of paint and a new perspective. We’ll see what this means for the show as a whole, but it does cap off a busy time in which Tyra was also recently confirmed to be hosting the new America’s Got Talent season following Nick Cannon’s time on the program.
Speaking in a statement on the subject of her return, here is what executive producer Ken Mok had to say:
“Tyra has always been the heart and soul of the franchise and her absence was deeply felt by our fiercely loyal fans who missed their Queen of the Smize … We’d like to thank Rita Ora for being a great partner and total pro. She infused this new iteration of ANTM with passion and creativity and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors.”
To us, America’s Next Top Model is a show that could ideally go on forever, but it would depend heavily on the sort of people who are involved in terms of the casting. The drama and the quality of the models are what defines the show in our eyes more than who is hosting it. It needs to produce models who find some sort of career in the industry after the fact, just like it also needs to create some memorable moments that will be discussed by people who are casual viewers of the show, and people who therefore could be convinced into watching more.
