Lethal Weapon season 1 finale: Show boss on big Riggs – Murtaugh ending

Lethal Weapon season 1 finale -

The Lethal Weapon season 1 finale ended on Wednesday night with an ending that sets the stage for season 2 far more than it tied up everything in a neat little bow. First, let’s start with the good news — there was some justice for Miranda, as Ronnie’s involvement was uncovered and he was eventually locked away by the time we got to the end of the installment.

Rather than just have the arrest of Ronnie be it, Riggs decided that he was going to go down to Mexico and take on the cartel in part responsible for what happened. Meanwhile, Murtaugh made a quick decision and decided to join him. It’s certainly a sweet little moment for the two that cements how far they’ve come since the first episode of the show. This is the sort of partnership that ultimately almost everyone can get behind.

So why make this move happen at the end of the finale, and what does this mean for the show’s season 2 future? In speaking further on the matter to TVLine, executive producer Matt Miller uttered the following:

“The idea was to drag him through the mud. I don’t know, I think that you kind of let the characters dictate the story, and it felt like to have some sort of sweet ending where the sun sets and we feel like all is right in the world, just didn’t feel like where we wanted.

“We want to really launch this kind of intrigue at the end of Season 1 and build up some of the mystery going into season two. [Also], really this is a show, to a certain extent, like a romance and a romantic comedy, but it’s about two guys: Riggs and Murtaugh.”

We do think that the second season is only going to accent this relationship further, and the show could be at an interesting place when you look at the future of the Riggs / Miranda story. If you keep it going, then you continue to establish this great emotional conflict at the heart of the story. Yet, you also want to see Riggs heal, and you have to find a way to do that before the end.

You can expect to see the Lethal Weapon premiere come September. Head over here for some further news about it.
