Dancing with the Stars 24 spotlight: Are Charo and Keo Motsepe the season’s underdog story?
Going into Dancing with the Stars season 24, we’re not sure what the expectations are for Charo and Keo Motsepe. While she has some dance experience, she’s also one of the older contestants this season and the majority of the show’s younger viewers may not have heard of her work. Therefore, she’s a little bit of a mystery wrapped inside an enigma, and it’s understandable if there are questions revolving around just how long she lasts.
Could she somehow surprise people? As we’re about to explain in the spotlight below, that feels very much like a possibility.
Claim to fame – Actress, comedian, and classical guitarist. She’s done just about everything over the course of her career, and can make you laugh with just a few words. She was actually featured previously on this show thanks to her Flamenco work.
Partner – Keo Motsepe. He’s back! We really like Keo, but we do think that he often gets paired with people who will have a hard time winning. This could be the case here, as well.
Strengths – She actually has a reasonable amount of history with dance, and with her musical background, she should be able to figure out many things such as timing without too much of a problem. She’s going to know how to work the stage, and she’s a HUGE personality. We see her as someone with maybe both skills and the personality upside of someone like Carson Kressley, who made it further than he should have just because he was likable.
Weaknesses – For her, it’s going to be all about trying to introduce herself to young viewers out there and making it clear to some of them who she is and what she brings to the table beyond just appealing to her base. She will need to make a big impression early, especially since she’s up against so many other potentially great dancers, especially among the women.
Prediction – Charo may make it a few weeks, but beyond that we’re nervous. On another season, we could see her being a sleeper pick to make it into the final five. However, this time she’s up against such women as Simone Biles, Heather Morris, and Normani Kordei, who could all make it easily to the final three without the blink of an eye. The deck is just stacked this time around, and we have to think at least one of the other guys is going to make it reasonably far.
