Hap and Leonard season 2: Our take on the trailer; what lies ahead

Hap and Leonard season 2 -

When is Hap and Leonard season 2 premiering on SundanceTV? Think along the lines of Wednesday, March 15 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, and with us inching ever closer in proximity to that date, it sure feels like the right time to dive into the just-released trailer courtesy of the network.

Before getting further, let’s share some perspective — we’re not someone who’s familiar with the books, and we recently binged the entire first season, for the most part, in a single night. We went into it having little clue of what the show was or what it would be like. It’s safe to say that come around the end of episode 3, and the craziness only started to escalate from there. It was a funny, dramatic, and dangerous thrill ride through out, and it absolutely had one of the more extended shootout scenes in recent memory.

Now, we’re getting a brief pause before season 2, one that features a rather hefty mystery: The remains found under Uncle Chester’s house. This was the cliffhanger at the end of season 1, and we’ll see how the story evolves and shifts around from here. If it’s anything like the first season, there’ll be some surprises around every turn. We know from the promo that there’ll be arrests — Hap’s certainly a guy who knows the inside of a jail cell already, as he spent some time there rather than heading overseas to fight. His relationship with Trudy hugely informed him; with her gone, who will he be? That’s a big question entering season 2 in our mind.

Some more good stuff ahead

We’re planning to do some extensive coverage of the season this year, so beyond the trailer, we want to give you a sense of what’s coming.

In addition to reviews / episode previews, we spoke with executive producer John Wirth earlier in the week about him taking on the job and some of what he wanted to focus on with the story. It’s a great, extensive interview, which you’re probably familiar with if you read some of our chats with John about his previous show Hell on Wheels.
