Steve Harvey’s Oscars reply to Warren Beatty feels perfect
You knew that Steve Harvey was going to have something to say about last night’s historic mix-up at the end of the 2017 Oscars. After all, he’s the original king of the results-envelope gaffe. If you think back to the end of the Miss Universe Pageant a little more than a year ago, the comedian and daytime-TV host announced that Miss Colombia had won the prize when instead it was Miss Philippines.
So in case you were wondering what he had to say, Harvey made the post below on his official account offering to lend Warren Beatty a helping hand to “get him through” whatever he’s going through. It’s pretty funny, even though the reality here is that Beatty wasn’t actually the person who said the name out loud. That was Faye Dunaway, who chose to say La La Land even though this was the incorrect envelope that the two of them had in their possession.
Back during Miss Universe, Harvey took sole credit for the mistake, saying that he misread the card. However, on this occasion the accounting firm took responsibility, saying that someone handed the presenters the wrong card leading up to the issue.
In retrospect, obviously you can question how nobody stopped in and decided to fix the error, but that may be especially difficult to do when you’re in the middle of presenting an award. At that particular moment in time, the main focus may just be figuring out a way to keep things streamlined. Also, there may be a fear of looking clueless on stage, and an assumption that the people behind the scenes at a show like this couldn’t possibly mess things up to so great a degree. You do have to think that after what happened this year, everyone is going to be bringing security to a higher level than ever moving into the 2018 show.
If you didn’t get a chance to see the big moment from last night for one reason or another, rest assured that you do so over at the link here.
