TV Quick Hits: ‘The Royals’ renewed; new Chris Colfer project; a cosplay competition
For this edition of TV Quick Hits, we’re going to be talking about all sorts of fun stuff pertaining to TV present and future — but we’re kicking things off with news of a cosplay-themed reality competition show, largely because this is something that we definitely didn’t think we’d see in the near future.
Syfy has announced that they are going to be bringing about a new cosplay series entitled “Cosplay Melee,” where every week different competitors will show off some of their best designs and styles. “Community” alum Yvette Nicole Brown will host the show, while Christian Beckman (famed costumer) and cosplay sensation LeeAnna Vamp will be judges.
We like the idea, mostly because it’s fun, lighthearted, and cosplay’s become somewhat of a significant art form in its own right. As someone who’s been over time to a wide array of different conventions and seen a lot of cool, interesting costumes, there’s enough material here for a series.
As for some other news…
“The Royals” renewed – For anyone out there who loves the fun and the drama of E!’s soapy drama series, know that you are going to be seeing much more of it! It’s now been officially reported now that the show is going to be coming back, and there is a great deal to be excited about when it comes to that. Given that the Royal Family’s been an institution for centuries, you have to think that this show could have a long life.
Chris Colfer’s new project – Following a six-season stint on “Glee,” The Hollywood Reporter claims that Colfer is shopping around a science fiction series about children with supernatural abilities known as “Indigo” to various networks. The children with these abilities are often misdiagnosed until someone helps them, and there will be villains (of course) who are out to manipulate some of these powers for their own personal gain.
Chris (who is also a best-selling author) will wear many hats over the course of this series — he will executive-produce, and would potentially write and direct the first episode in the event the show is picked up.

As always, share some of your thoughts below! We will be back with some further TV highlights as soon as some of them happen to come up.

Very much looking forward to Chris Colfer’s “Indigo’ project! Colfer has a keen eye, dynamic storytelling abilities (not the least of which is his acting) and was often praised by the production team of ‘Glee’ for his interest and ideas.
Colfer’s “Land of Stories” series is an excellent series that started as merely fresh & fun, but quickly grew to be exciting & innovative, while retaining its initial freshness.
I enjoy performers & series that aren’t “the same old thing”, which is one reason I enjoyed ‘Glee’ and also love ‘Z Nation’ (a series on which I kept hoping to see Chris Colfer, with his unexpected sai skills).
Looking forward to more ‘Indigo’ news!
