‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings huge for Alec Baldwin – Ed Sheeran show

SNL -How do you guarantee that “Saturday Night Live” gets great ratings? It’s simple: By promising beforehand that Alec Baldwin will be on the show.

Last week’s new episode, which featured the former “30 Rock” star (and his impersonation of Donald Trump), drew the show’s largest 18-49 rating since November with a 3.6 rating. This is a larger number than ANY primetime series posted over the course of the past week. It beat “The Bachelor,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and even “The Big Bang Theory” rather easily. It’ll probably be topped by “The Walking Dead,” but that is still a pretty incredible total for a show that didn’t even start until 11:30 p.m. at night.

Unless the show manages to bring out Melissa McCarthy or an extremely big name (like Barack Obama — hey, we suggested it) a little bit later this season, we may not see a number like this again. Some of the craziness surrounding the Donald Trump Presidency will probably calm down a little bit, and we’re also going to see more and more people doing other things on the weekend when the weather gets a little bit warmer and there are some further opportunities to engage in this sort of thing.

The next time that “SNL” will be on the air is for the March 4 episode hosted by Octavia Spencer. We love the choice, mostly because you’re getting a movie star with a great resume onto a show that she should’ve probably hosted many years ago. While we’re not sure precisely what sort of sketches she’ll take on at the moment, we do have a feeling that she’s going to be game for right about anything. There will probably be at least one more show during the month, and then beyond this it wouldn’t be much of a shock if there isn’t another one coming on the air until April. “SNL” has to save at least three episodes until May, since that’s when they are going to want to go out with a big a bang as possible.
