‘Outlander’ season 3: Exec on South Africa, season 4 planning, much more

While we know that there are going to be plenty of people out there who are watching the big game out there, but for those looking for some counter-programming (at least in the form of reading articles), this “Outlander” post is for you! Heck, maybe some of you can multi-task and read while also watching the game.

Earlier today, show executive producer Matthew B. Roberts did a question-and-answer session on Twitter with some fans of the show, and over the course of it touched on a number of different subjects. Take a look at some of his answers, with our analysis of them included, below.

On South Africa filming – Roberts confirmed that they will be in the country for a good span of time, but he could not say more than a “few months.” Sam Heughan said previously that they would be done at the end of May, so March until May sounds like a reasonable guess. He cannot give out specific production dates, which probably is for the best since crowds can come together quickly.

On his typical day – There’s not too much in terms of specific insight here, but what Roberts does bring to you here is a nice little highlight reel in terms of everything that he’s got going on over the course of a single day. It’s not easy being an executive producer! At the same time, we have a feeling that it’s still a lot of fun to do.

Title cards – Do you love these? If so, it looks like there are a number of fun, interesting ones that will be coming up over the course of the season. Not only that, but it seems as though Roberts is writing all of them himself. These are the sort of little things that bring the show to another level.

Get ready for heartache – Would it be “Outlander” if there wasn’t a moment or two where tears started to fall all over the place? If you’ve read the books, then you’ve got a pretty good idea already as to what is coming up. However, don’t imagine that all of them are tears of heartbreak — there could be happy tears, as well!

Looking towards the future – Given that Roberts said that he is going almost straight from season 3 into season 4, he’s already starting to look ahead to what may be an epic season coming up (hence why he’s already read through Drums of Autumn several times). Some of you diehard fans may have a feeling what he is referring to with “SB” (and it’s not an abbreviation for “Super Bowl”).

Granted, we got a LONG way to go until season 4 — we’re still waiting to see when season 3 premieres. If you’ve read some of our other stuff, then you may have heard already that we could be waiting until summer.
