‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Kristen Stewart, Alessia Cara, and Melissa McCarthy give show nice boost

SNL -For everyone out there who proclaims “Saturday Night Live” to be irrelevant in its present form, you don’t have to do much other than show them the latest ratings for them to realize otherwise.

After all, the show last night hosted by Kristen Stewart and with musical guest Alessia Cara ended up drawing in total a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the best figure for “SNL” since the Dave Chappelle episode following the Presidential Election. To us, there are probably a few reasons why this number ended up being so great.

1. The return of Alec Baldwin – After the insanity of the last few weeks, it made sense that the majority of viewers out there wanted to see Baldwin take on Donald Trump for another cold open. Given that he’s actually hosting the show next weekend, you’re going to have potentially yet another opportunity to see him do this all over again. (We especially imagine that there are going to be some big ratings for that show.)

2. Kristen Stewart as host – There are a ton of fans of hers out there who loved her in “Twilight” and some of her indie work since then. The thing that remains a surprise to us is how it took this long in order to get her on board the show. We also know that Cara has plenty of fans out there, as well!

3. Melissa McCarthy – For viewers on the East Coast, there’s no way that they would’ve known this was coming. By the time the West Coast broadcast aired, however, many viewers may have already heard about one of the funniest sketches of the past few years. (Check out our full review to watch this and every other sketch from last night.) As a result of that, this may have boosted the ratings further.

The most ironic thing of all is that the comments of Trump and others may have done nothing other than boost the ratings for the show to another level. This has been a trend for most of the season, and we don’t see it stopping now.

Do you think Baldwin’s show next week will generate even better ratings than what we saw for last night’s show? Be sure to share now in the comments. (Photo: NBC.)
