‘The 100’ season 4, episode 1 preview: A look ahead; can the show find calmer waters?
It’s been a long wait for new episodes of “The 100,” but on Wednesday night the Kru is back and things are looking pretty bad for everyone. Let’s just say that there is a lot of different stories that the show is going to be taking on now that all of these characters are facing impending doom. Six months. That’s how long everyone could have before the whole world melts down and wipes everyone out. At least that’s according to A.L.I.E. and she wasn’t the most trust worthy source of information since she had her own agenda.
So, was A.L.I.E. telling the truth? Is there any way to turn things around? This is something that show creator Jason Rothenberg does his best to detail in the video below. He specifically gets into the threat that the world is facing, and how we are going to see a cautious approach from Clarke and others in trying to determine what they want to do or even if there is anything they can do. This is a great opportunity to see just how much Clarke has grown from when we first met her — and also how much she’s been forced to grow up in a very short period of time. She’s basically making the decision to not shout “fire” in the middle of a movie theater unless she legitimately starts to see flames. She doesn’t want to incite panic.
Rothenberg also makes it clear that this is going to be a truly epic premiere, one that will feature many of the characters struggling to try to figure out how they want to move forward and who they can trust. There isn’t much of a time jump, so expect to see the story pick up almost exactly where it left off.
Can this season continue the momentum that we saw at the end of season 3, and can they do so without being anywhere near as polarizing as it was? This is a show that does some wonderful stuff onscreen, but it had one fatal flaw last year: A failure to get out of its own way. It mishandled expectations when it came to Lexa leaving the show, and the entire situation revolving the departure of Ricky Whittle was an stain on the show and a distraction from what was going on in the episodes. We do think the show can bounce back and one of the main reasons is the characters. There are so many great characters like Clarke, Bellamy, Raven and Octavia (you can read a story at the link here about why we think Octavia is going to have the most interesting stories this season).
