‘Gotham’ season 3, episode 15 preview: Return date speculation for Ben McKenzie series

Tonight, “Gotham” season 3 is airing what is being advertised as its winter finale, and we understand why given precisely how long a wait you are looking at here. This is the last episode of the show you’ll be seeing for a long time, so let’s hope that the likes of Ben McKenzie, Robin Lord Taylor, and guest star Cameron Monaghan (Jerome) deliver on everything that you could possibly want from them.

Now, let’s start to look more towards what the future of the show could be in terms of a potential return date. The show is being taken off the air for several months because of Fox bringing back “24: Legacy,” which is premiering Sunday after the Super Bowl and will then carry over into another airing on Monday, February 6. This show has twelve episodes, so if Fox decides to air one episode a week (this includes two the week of the Super Bowl), then it would mean that its finale would air on Monday, April 17. Meanwhile, this in turn would mean that “Gotham” would return for new episodes on Monday, April 24.

If this turns out to be true and “Gotham” doesn’t air any two-hour episodes coming up, it could fundamentally mean that the series will be on the air until the middle of June. Fox isn’t as averse to airing shows after May sweeps as other networks; they did this previously with “Lucifer.”

As for what we are going to see over the final episodes of the season, it’s hard to tell in advance beyond potentially more returning villains and a slightly different theme from the first part of the story. This new collection of episodes is airing so much later that you could feasibly make it feel like an entirely different season without much of a problem. Just so long as the soul and the tone of the show is intact, we’re going to be happy.
