‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6: Robert Carlyle discusses season 7 future
At the moment, “Once Upon a Time” is not officially renewed for a seventh season over at ABC. However, at the same time we do get the sense that there is interest in making more on the part of production. This is a show that has done some really great, magical things over the years, and we like to think that the series deserves a happy ending. After all, we’ve been told over time that this show is meant to be a fairy tale. Why don’t we embracing that?
In addition to the fact that the show not being renewed as of yet, there is also another key issue that will need to be discussed moving forward: Whether or not the cast comes back, given that many regulars are seemingly not under contract at the moment for another year. One of them is Robert Carlyle, who told Digital Spy recently that he is going to need to do some major thinking about his future over the next several weeks:
“By the end of this month, I’m going to hit a crossroads and I’m going to have to make some decisions. These decisions aren’t just about my wellbeing anymore, it’s about my family.
“I’ve been out in Vancouver, Canada [where OUAT films] for the last eight years. My children love it out there, they go to school there, they’ve got friends there. I really have to think about them most, more than I have to think about me.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up still back there, but you never know.”
Our sentiment at the moment is that the show will come back for a seventh season, but this one could certainly be the last. If it does turn out this way, our suggestion is to make it clear to the cast in advance, that way you can get many of them to sign up knowing that there is not too much more of the story to tell. We cannot imagine the show at this point without Carlyle as Rumpelstiltskin, given just how involved he is to almost every facet of the story.
