SAG Awards 2017: William H. Macy, ‘Orange is the New Black’ among TV winners (list being updated)

Tonight, the SAG Awards are airing on TNT and TBS, and in the process of everything else going on tonight from the speeches to much of the political conversation, there also were some winners to get to! This is what this article is all about, as we’re going to be having some further updates of the winners over the course of the night.

Actor, Comedy Series – William H. Macy, “Shameless.” This was a very short acceptance speech, but also a funny one given how Macy started it saying that he was shocked, but probably not as shocked as Jeffrey Tambor was to actually lose.

Actress, Comedy Series – Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep.” We expected her to win, and with that, it’s hard to consider this much of a shock. Her speech was beautiful, as she recounted the history of her father coming to this country.

Comedy Ensemble – “Orange is the New Black.” One of the biggest events of the night is waiting for the entire ensemble of the cast to take it on the stage. This is a HUGE cast, seriously. Especially for a comedy series. For whatever reason, Taylor Schilling was both out of breath and with the giggles.

Actress, Limited Series / TV Movie – Sarah Paulson, “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.” There’s not much we can say here that we haven’t said already, mostly because of how wonderful this performance was as Marcia Clark.

Actor, Limited Series / TV Movie – Bryan Cranston, “All the Way.” Consider this the surprise of the night, given that the actor managed to overtake the pair from “The People v. OJ Simpson” for the prize.

Actor, Drama Series – John Lithgow, “The Crown.” Given that the SAG Awards tend to love period dramas, seeing the exceptional Lithgow win here could not be a shock to anyone.

Actress, Drama Series – Claire Foy, “The Crown.” Like we said, we could see this one coming. Still, Foy was outstanding in this role. Consider this further incentive to watch the show.

Drama Ensemble – “Stranger Things.” Clearly, the SAG Awards wanted to get the TV winners out of the way, given that the entire last your was devoted more to the films. Still, a worthy winner here, even if it was a surprise.
