‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’: Should Kenya Moore have talked Sheree Whitfield’s past?

Atlanta -Hey look — tonight’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” featured a shouting match! Least surprising news ever.

Yet, at the same time there was such sadness in much of what was said during tonight’s heated moments that reminded us yet again of why there is such a depressing sheen at the heart of this entire franchise — when it’s fun and the drama is wacky, it’s great. Then, you get moments where Brooks Ayers is front and center for a cancer controversy, where you have Lisa Rinna bringing up Yolanda Hadid’s health issues almost every episode, and when Kenya Moore claims that Sheree Whitfield has been in an abusive relationship.

What’s the point of saying this? What does it gain you? Maybe this is establishing some leverage towards making your point, and that brings you back to one of the other issues at the heart of this show: An inherent need to always be right, which so many people across multiple shows have. It’s almost like they are all playing a secret game show where the winner gets confetti dropped on them and a million-dollar prize. Instead, more than likely they just get screamed at, the result of pushing someone to their breaking point courtesy of constantly reinforcing your opinion to the point where nobody wants to hear it.

Sheree didn’t seem to hear everything that Kenya said — she couldn’t, given that some of it was in confessional. We understand more of the conflict and the bad-mouthing with Porsha Williams, since all of America has seen some of the receipts on that, to use the current terminology. We’ve seen things get violent there. With Sheree, you’re talking about things that haven’t been seen or discovered by the show’s cameras.

Other than Sheree, here’s who the comment really hurts: Any guy she’s been with, since now they gotta deal with people coming up to them asking if they were abusive towards her. That’s really unfortunate, and something that they didn’t sign up for at the time of the relationship. It’s not like Sheree has been a part of this show for her entire adult life.

What did you think about the comments by Kenya tonight? Do they come with the territory of being a part of this show? Share in the comments below. (Photo: Bravo.)
