TV Quick Hits: ‘House of Cards’ premiere date; ‘Nashville’ season 5 scoop; potential ‘black-ish’ spin-off

We begin today’s edition of TV Quick Hits by discussing some spin-off chatter, and it’s some that we find especially exciting given that we’re talking about one of the best comedies on network TV in “black-ish.”

According to Deadline, the potential spin-off would focus on the character of Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) as she makes the move to college and starts a new chapter of her life. Show creator Kenya Barris is involved, and there could be a backdoor pilot a little later this spring. It’s an intriguing idea, just because it could echo some of the original themes of the series but in a different setting. However, at the same time you could argue that this is a story that could work its way into the series proper without too many problems. Remember for a minute here that this is something that both “The Middle” and “Modern Family” are doing already to a certain extent.

As for some other news of the day…

“Nashville” news – Want a little bit more scoop regarding next week’s new episode? We’ve got a few little morsels for you below courtesy of both a synopsis and a promo for “Love Hurts”:

Synopsis – “Scarlett and Damien George fight over their differences; Clay and Maddie’s relationship builds; Clay shows Maddie a different part of town.”

As for the promo below, who else finds this one to be incredibly haunting? There’s just something about the tone and the lighting here that could send a chill down your spine.

“House of Cards” premiere date – Let’s hope you love “House of Cards” enough to wait for it a little bit longer than usual. Netflix fittingly chose Inauguration Day to announce the new season of the show, and also precisely when it would be premiering: May 30. This is more than two months later than any other season to date. There’s no precise reason known for the delay, but we certainly expect it to be worth it.

Also, is the teaser below the creepiest one that we’ve seen Netflix put out there? It may very well be.
