‘Call the Midwife’ season 6 spoilers: Jack Ashton teases return of season 5 storyline

Call the Midwife -

Within the world of the BBC’s “Call the Midwife,” almost everything is fluid, and stories that were significant at one point in the run do have a tendency to come back and play a key role once more. For some further evidence of that, all you have to do is look at some of the latest reports that are coming out now.

Speaking in a new appearance on “Lorraine” previewing the start of the latest season on Sunday, Jack Ashton (who plays Tom) made it very clear that the thalidomide storyline that was a key part of the end of season 5 will be revisited and focused on once more. This was a drug that Dr. Turner was using to help treat pregnant women, but he soon realized that it was ultimately causing significantly more problems. Part of the story for him now this season is going to be convincing the greater community that this drug is bad news, and should be avoided at all costs.

Meanwhile, Ashton also commented that some of the other ideas that could be explored further on the season are the use of contraceptives, the viewpoint on homosexuality, and difficult cases involving dwarfism and genital mutilation. Life is never all that easy for those in Nonnatus House and around Poplar as a whole, so you are not going to see that change all that much. As for the circumstances impacting life, that is where things could shift and alter themselves in some surprising ways.

The biggest thing that we’re hoping to see over season 6 in terms of a happy event is a wedding for Tom and Barbara, given that the two parties became engaged during the Christmas Special using one of the cutest engagement rings of all time. We know that the two could make one another very happy, so we are very excited and interested to watch that story develop over time.
