‘The Defenders’ season 2 spoilers: Krysten Ritter tees up dynamic with Jessica Jones, other heroes

Defenders -

Given how far away “The Defenders” was at the time in which the show was first announced, there’s admittedly still a part of us that has a difficult time accepting the fact that this show is actually premiering this year! It’s been a long wait, and you have to hope that it will be worth it.

One of the most interesting questions going into the superhero team-up is rather simple: How in the world does this happen? What could there be that actually requires these four to get together, even when they all probably feel as though they’re better off on their own? We’ve seen a picture now of Sigourney Weaver as the primary villain of the series, but there’s not a whole lot known about her other than that she’s powerful.

Entertainment Weekly recently did a cover story featuring a wide array of the different characters from “The Defenders,” and in speaking specifically on Jessica Jones, executive producer Marco Ramirez made it clear that she may be the person who has the hardest time dealing with the transition: “She’s gloriously the most reluctant hero in the world … She’s going to have to let three men into her life who she doesn’t 100 percent trust.” Krysten Ritter, meanwhile, tells the publication that this is a “reluctant team-up,” which means that she, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are probably going to have to figure out how to work together in the process of uniting and taking on their common enemy.

This is going to be an exceptionally busy year for Ritter more so than any of the other actors within the Marvel – Netflix universe. She’s going to be transitioning over from “The Defenders” to season 2 of “Jessica Jones,” which is going to be premiering potentially at some point in 2018. There is also a third season of “Daredevil” on the horizon, and the same goes for “Luke Cage” season 2. There is also the spin-off for “The Punisher,” but nothing is altogether clear as to when it is premiering just yet.

All we can say for sure is that it looks like it’s going to be a fun, exciting year when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Netflix. Here’s to hoping that all of this lives up to the hype.
