‘Better Call Saul’ season 3 confirms return of Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring

Better Call Saul season 3While we’re not entirely sure that this is news that needed the utmost confirmation, here it is confirmed nonetheless: Gus Fring will be bringing plenty of Los Pollos Hermanos to the third season of “Better Call Saul” — he’s already brought some fried chicken to all of the fine folks at the TCA Winter Press Tour.

Before taking the stage to discuss bringing his character back, Esposito walked around as Gus handing out some of the perfectly-branded cuisine to the critics in attendance, before making it clear how happy he is to be a part of this show that took his career to new heights. Esposito appeared in 26 episodes of “Breaking Bad” as Fring, a notorious drug kingpin with a double life who eventually becomes the biggest rival out there to Walter White. The entire fourth season of the show was in part fantastic thanks to him, and “Face Off” as a result is one of the series’ greatest episodes.

Earlier this week, it first became obvious that Gus was coming back given that a “commercial” for Los Pollos Hermanos arrived online featuring the character front and center. It was a smart move to get the news out there in this way, largely since it eliminated the possibility of anyone sneaking onto set and spoiling the big news. Now that everyone knows he’ll be turning up, there may be less of a need for secrecy on the show — therefore, making the lives of everyone a little bit easier.

While it is not clear precisely how many episodes of “Better Call Saul” we will see Fring appear in, the good news is that now he is around, odds are that he won’t be going anywhere in the near future. His character is tied to both Jimmy McGill / Saul Goodman and Mike Ehrmantraut in one way or another, so they’re all stuck around each other for the near future.

Just in case Esposito’s return is not enough in the way of news to report on with season 3, we now know that the show is also coming back on Monday, April 10, and that there will be even more of the soul of “Breaking Bad” in this run of episodes than potentially any that we’ve seen on AMC to date.
