Carrie Fisher – ‘Saturday Night Live’ episode replaying tonight; watch her Princess Leia beach sketch again

SNL -Earlier today, we called for “Saturday Night Live” trying to do something to honor the late Carrie Fisher. Given her status as an entertainment icon, it made some sense; also, it did given that she had hosted the show, and with Felicity Jones of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” hosting tonight’s new episode at 11:30 p.m. Eastern, it would feel strange to not acknowledge her presence in some shape or form.

While we don’t know still what the new episode tonight has planned, there is one thing that we can say for certain now: Fisher’s memory is being honored in a substantial way by NBC. The network confirmed this afternoon that they will be replaying the Fisher-hosted episode tonight from 1978, which was back when “Star Wars” was taking the entire country by storm. As you can see in the video below (if you have not seen it in some time), she came out for the opening monologue in costume, joking that if she didn’t wear it, nobody would have any idea who she was. She also takes part in a beach sketch as Leia, which you can also check out in the video. They’re both moderately funny, and tonally, they are a reminder than even though more than 30 years have passed between this episode airing and now, the show’s still doing some of the same sort of stuff.

If you’re not an NFL fan (or even if you are and hate the New England Patriots), we have a feeling that there is a lot of entertainment that you’re probably going to get out of watching this episode tonight. There are so many sketches that very few people have seen in a rather long time, and it should be a nice appetizer to the main event coming up later.
