‘Fatal Attraction’ project at Fox reportedly dead

Fox -

Remember back when Fox announced that they were making a new version of “Fatal Attraction“? It was well over a year ago, and it came at a time when we were getting stories on pretty much ALL sorts of revivals at the time. We understand why the network wanted it, given that this was a chance to give viewers something that felt familiar. Fox also has been reviving everything as of late, giving “Lethal Weapon” a shot after their attempt at “Minority Report” went south.

Unfortunately, it feels like the project’s now officially done for. According to Deadline, one of the biggest issues that came about in making the show happen was failing to find a big-name actress to be the leading lady. That was something needed in order to make the project marketable. Apparently, Megan Fox was one of the targets for them, and that makes some sense given the sole fact that she is a part of another show on the network at the moment in “New Girl.”

Maybe we’ll see someone else attempt this down the line, but for the time being this project is done. The thing here is that networks are going to continue to revive old properties if they see some sort of value in them. There are even some more of them coming up this year! Fox is bringing “24: Legacy” coming up after the Super Bowl, and we’ve also got a TV version of “Training Day” coming to CBS a little bit later this year. Since “MacGyver” and “Lethal Weapon” are both likely to get another season, this definitely suggests to them that this format works. It doesn’t matter if people complain about “all the remakes” — if they get the viewership, it’s going to keep happening.

We’ll get a better since of all of Fox’s upcoming programming come March or so, when pilot season casting starts to pick up a little bit more steam.
