‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6: Jennifer Morrison looks at her future on show

“Once Upon a Time” is at the moment in its sixth season on the air, and while we don’t have any indications that this is going to be the final year for the show, that isn’t stopping some of the questions from being out there.

There’s also one other part of the renewal equation that we didn’t know about before now: Jennifer Morrison’s contract is up at the end of the year. This is something that she herself confirmed in an interview on the podcast “The Drop-In,” which was largely a surprise to read mostly from the vantage point that many TV stars these days end up seeing their original six-year contracts that they sign at the start of a series extend to a seventh. We don’t know the mechanics of Morrison’s deal, so it seems silly and inappropriate to speculate on that. It just raises more questions as to whether there could be some cast shakeups if the show does come back.

For Jennifer’s part, she made it clear on the podcast that she does have a certain degree of openness to returning, largely based on her “loyalty” that she has to the show and the feeling of closeness that she has to her character. She recognizes that this is a show that has dramatically improved the quality of her life, but also recognizes that all things do have an expiration date and there are other things that she could take on moving into her future.

We’ll make our feeling on this subject fairly clear: We do think that there should be one more season of “Once Upon a Time,” while at the same time it should contain the majority of its original cast. Given that the ratings are what they are at the moment, we don’t see a whole lot of logic in trying to reboot the show at this point. Just give us the stories, and the happily ever afters, that so many people want.

ABC has until May to determine whether or not “Once Upon a Time” will be renewed for another season. We have no reason to be anything other than positive.
