‘Lethal Weapon’ episode 12 preview: Murtaugh vs. Murtaugh

Lethal -One of the more interesting things about television sometimes is how there is this cloak of near-constant invincibility around the series regulars of a major show. You’ll see them almost get shot, get attacked, be outnumbered, and often be tortured within an inch of their lives. Yet, somehow, they managed to find a way out of the situation alive, and typically within a few weeks they’re back at tip-top shape ready to go out and wreck a little bit of havoc again, almost as though nothing ever happened in the first place. It’s a little bit of an odd phenomenon, but it’s something that we’ve witnessed far more often than not with these action / crime shows.

Maybe on “Lethal Weapon,” there’s a certain degree of that, as well, but we do like the approach with next week’s new episode “Brotherly Love” given that the writers are focusing in more on the sort of real-life issue that could sideline many an officer in real life: Their health. While a new medical issue may not sideline Murtaugh completely in this episode, it’s something that will need to be on his mind.

Synopsis – “When a car containing massive amounts of cocaine is stolen from an impound lot, Riggs and Murtaugh become embroiled in a notorious car theft ring. Meanwhile, Murtaugh experiences some frightening chest pains. If Riggs’ driving isn’t enough of a trigger, the lead defense attorney on the case is none other than the terrifyingly brilliant Trish Murtaugh.”

When you think about what Murtaugh could be going through when it comes to these said chest pains, it’s easy to feel for him even if he is a fictional character. This is also a different issue for him than almost being shot at; this can return at almost any given time, and if it turns out to be serious, he may have to look at everything around in in order to ensure that nothing else terrible transpires.

Promo – This video does give you a pretty good sense as to the funnier part of this episode, which is going to revolve around the arrival of Trish, someone who could come on and cause some particularly funny trouble for Murtaugh. After all, it’s husband vs. wife in a most unusual situation! Consider this the lightness that will help offset any medical events.
