‘Lethal Weapon’ spoilers: ‘The Odd Couple’ star to play Joe Pesci character
With “Lethal Weapon” getting ever closer to a season 2 renewal, the folks behind the scenes of the show want to do everything that they can in order to ensure that it happens. Getting a prominent character from the movies onto the show is a great way to help this renewal process along.
Not only that, but the same goes with finding a familiar face to play this character. According to Entertainment Weekly, Thomas Lennon (“The Odd Couple,” “Reno 911!”) is going to be appearing in an upcoming episode as Leo Getz, the character played by Joe Pesci in the original film franchise. He’s a lawyer who looks for accidents, and looks to find ways to make as much money out of them as possible. He’s almost Saul Goodman before Saul Goodman existed, and we have a feeling that he is going to be a significant thorn in the side for Riggs and Murtaugh for however long he ends up sticking around.
Could this be a character that we see a lot of in the future? It certainly seems possible, depending on what happens with “The Odd Couple” over at CBS. The future of it (at least when it comes to the ratings) is not great, and if the show is canceled, Lennon’s schedule could be freed up both for this and other opportunities. Even if “The Odd Couple” does continue (we certainly don’t love rooting for shows to fail), there’s still a good chance for him to be able to pop up for an episode of “MacGyver” here or there. That’s one of the great things about sitcom schedules; they tend to be light enough for actors to take on some other opportunities so long as they don’t clash or cause any other problems.
New episodes of “Lethal Weapon” are going to continue Wednesday nights on Fox at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. The show right now is airing before “Star,” so the coming weeks should continue to be a test to see how it fares without having “Empire” around.
