‘Switched at Birth’ season 5, episode 1 preview: Daphne’s back in familiar territory

The season 5 premiere of “Switched at Birth” is finally coming to Freeform a little bit later this month on January 31, and in the new sneak peek below, you can get a sense that Daphne will be coming home to find that not everything is precisely as she left it.

Early in the episode, the character is going to still be back in China, which is where we left her off at the end of season 4 after she and Bay made a decision to give back. They’re going to have their fair share of fun, but eventually there will be something that leads to the two of them being called back home. It’s a little too much of a spoiler to reveal what it is that brings them back, but let’s just say that in their minds, it is significant — and something that will be dealt with not long after they return.

When back, Katie Leclerc’s character will be doing her part to try to restart her life, and that includes getting back to some of her studies and try to take some pre-med classes. Unfortunately, she’s told quickly that there aren’t any classes available for her to take. She says that she’ll still try to figure something out, but it’s not entirely clear what that something will be. Will it be exciting? We certainly hope so, and her journey through the final episodes will hopefully be entertaining and inspiring.

We know that Daphne’s been through a lot since the start of the show. Therefore, we’d love to see her end her run with some movement in terms of stabilizing her future career. While it’d be nice if her romantic life was in a place where she could have a partner for the rest of her life, that’s not necessarily needed in order for us to ensure that she will be happy.
