‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’ alum to reportedy play Mister Mxyzptlk

Supergirl -

When we first heard that the character of Mister Mxyzptlk was coming to “Supergirl” season 2, the initial reaction that we had to it was surprise … and understandably so. You have to remember for a minute here that this is one of the strangest Superman villains out there, and someone who may not even in some ways consider themselves a villain at all. He’s an imp who comes over from another dimension to play tricks on Superman; there are times when he’s thought of as particularly nefarious, and then there are also times when he’s not thought of as nearly as much of a threat at all.

For the sake of this show, we cannot say for certain how evil the character will be, but we can tell you who is going to play him. As first reported by Heroic Hollywood, Peter Gadiot of “Queen of the South” / “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” will appear in two episodes as the character. It’s a little bit of a different direction than we expected for the character, but that may be good since it suggests that the writers have a specific take.

In general, finding interesting, compelling villains that stand apart from one another is one of the things that “Supergirl” as a show continues to struggle with the most. Two of their best ones so far are Livewire and Silver Banshee, and we haven’t seen either one of them this season. (With that said, we do know that Livewire is going to be coming back to cause some chaos a little bit later in the season.)

One of the fun things about the video below is that you can get a little bit of backstory from this character across a wide array of different shows — and see in the process that there are so many different interpretations that are out there. We completely forgot that Howie Mandel ever had hair before we watched this!
