‘Reign’ season 4 spoilers: Series boss on new events ahead for Mary

Reign -Isn’t it nice to be finally getting a little bit of news related to “Reign” out into the universe? We’ve waited for a rather-long time since the end of season 3, but finally some more details are coming out there about a season that has several large challenges ahead of it — including covering a lot of ground in a very short period of time.

While we’re unsure if the fourth season is going to take you all the way to Mary’s death, what we do know is that more of her love life is going to take center stage. For example, executive producer Laurie McCarthy notes to Yahoo! TV that Lord Darnley (her second husband) is going to factor into the equation, and be a problem at times just because of his own desire for influence:

“What happens in this chapter in her life is that she meets her second husband and it’s an incredibly tumultuous marriage.”

McCarthy also notes to the publication that you will be meeting Mary’s third husband over the course of the season, in addition to seeing her child:

“There really is joy amongst the tragedy … You will see how scrappy Mary is and how hard she fights, not just for her child, but for the people around her.”

Regardless of what does happen over the final episodes, the sense that we do get is that McCarthy wants this show to feel optimistic and even inspirational in the end, as though we’re meant to cheer Mary on through the various hurdles of her life and celebrate her legacy, no matter where we leave her on the show. While we do easily think that there could’ve been another season or two of this show beyond this one to explore even more of this, for now we’re just grateful that we’ve had a chance to experience as much of her live (at least the retelling of her life) as possible.

How far do you think the story of season 4 will take us? We want to know what you think in the comments! Meanwhile, head over here to check out some of the first details of the premiere episode of “Reign” right now. (Photo: The CW.)
