‘Call the Midwife’ gets further ratings boost leading into season 6

Midwife -

Call the Midwife” recently aired its Christmas Special in both the UK and here in America, and now that more consolidated ratings are coming in, it’s looking more and more like yet another big success for the BBC and the show’s producers.

According to new reports, further viewership following Christmas has allowed the special, which featured most of the characters in South Africa, to reach in total 9.2 million people. This figure does not include many On-Demand or internet streams, so the audience is likely even larger. While we’ve seen even larger ratings for the series in the past, at the same time you also have to remember that this is a show that is over five years old at this point. The amount of retention that it’s shown year in and year out is rather remarkable.

In speaking out further on the show’s ratings successes in a statement, here is what writer Heidi Thomas had to say:

“We are always so proud to be part of BBC One’s Christmas Day schedule, and absolutely delighted that so many people joined us. At this special time of year it really feels as though the cast, crew and audience of Call The Midwife are one big family, and we can’t wait to share series six with everyone.”

Now, we have to wait and see precisely when the next batch of episodes will premiere. Past tradition dictates that it will probably be at some point a little bit later in the month, but this is something that does ebb and flow a little bit. Therefore, we’ll update you on a precise premiere date for the upcoming eight episodes as soon as we can. Remember that “Call the Midwife” was already renewed for several more seasons, so there is absolutely no reason to be worried for its future.
