‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: Could Vanessa Grimaldi of Quebec be Nick Viall’s future fiancee?

We’ve almost made it to the end of the road for “The Bachelor” spotlight series this year, and we’ll definitely say that we’ve saved one of the more interesting people for last in Vanessa Grimaldi. She’s gotten a good bit of press going into the season, and she’s also very different from a lot of the other contenders. This is the sort of thing that could prove to help her stand out early, and if she and Nick Viall establish a good-enough connection, get her through to the final Rose Ceremony.

As per usual, don’t worry about spoilers: There aren’t any over the course of this article.

Age – 29. It’s rather odd that a 29-year old is one of the older contestants on a season with a 36-year old lead, but here we are. Consider this further proof that the show really doesn’t consider the leading man’s age at all when making their decisions.

Occupation – Special education teacher. If you work to have this career, it’s very much our belief that you are doing it because you have a calling. Therefore, we don’t think that Vanessa’s on this show to be famous or to spend the majority of her year hosting VIP nightclub gigs for diminishing returns. (Maybe there’s slight shade in there…)

Location – Montreal, Quebec. We’ve been to the city before, and we do have to say that it feels very much different than any other place we’ve ever been in North America. It’s got a different style and culture about it, almost like New York City meets Paris. This upbringing should immediately help her stand out.

Things to know – She speaks French and Italian in addition to English, she’s clearly very intelligence, and she’s very open romantically to a wide array of people — she claims that she doesn’t have a type. Apparently, she’s also received a promise ring before, which she believes to be one of the most romantic things ever.

There’s really not that much out there about her online, but that’s no surprising given her job. Teachers typically aren’t out there taking a million pictures for Instagram or trying to get on TV constantly.

How is she actually going to do? – Like we said, she’s getting a lot of buzz and probably will do rather well this season. She feels in some ways like a Jubilee or a Sharleen — someone who stands out just because they have a different background than the rest of the field. Whether that translates into something more this season remains to be seen.
