Don Lemon has ear pierced live on CNN’s New Year’s Eve

 

Even though Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin are technically the hosts of CNN’s New Year’s Eve, we’re going to argue that the real scene-stealer remains Don Lemon. For the past couple of years, he’s spent most of the holiday getting incredibly drunk, and then doing a few things that we know that he probably will regret at some point after the fact.

For the sake of this article, we’re talking almost exclusively about one of the most ridiculous things that Lemon is doing over the course of the show tonight: Potentially getting a tattoo in the midst of the chaos. He’s in New Orleans with Brooke Baldwin, and for those wondering, he seemingly started planning this out before he even had all that much to drink. (Maybe having a shot or two is helping him make that decision, but it was still in the planning process nonetheless.)

The one part of this that was somewhat depressing was just how long it took the network to go this point.

When the show finally got back to him, apparently he changed his mind and went for an ear piercing instead. This probably did make for better TV, and it looked EXTREMELY painful for the entirety of the time in which we saw it. We’ll give him some credit for actually going through with it, especially since this was the legit way with the needle rather than with the gun. We do think the ultimate piercing was worth the payoff (even if we thought he was getting a tattoo), but CNN may need to rethink part of their show since it took a LONG time to get here.
