‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2017′: Camila Cabello performing with Fifth Harmony

Rockin Eve -

For the most part, 2016 was a great year for Fifth Harmony — or at least it was until December rolled around. The group, formerly of “The X Factor,” had performed all around the world, had their biggest single ever in “Work From Home,” and was able to take the title of the biggest girl-band in America.

Then, Camila Cabello decided to leave the group, and just about all hell broke loose across the internet as many fans freaked out and/or expressed their major disappointment. We’re not going to get into the drama of it all, but of course it is a bummer to see the group splinter off given that they were so strong together — they even had a song named “Better Together” that was almost a slogan for that.

Here’s where things get interesting in the context of New Year’s Eve tonight — Fifth Harmony is scheduled to appear on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” in order to perform two songs, but this is going to be one of those occasions where TV magic cannot keep up with real-time events. According to E! News, the performance from Los Angeles was taped prior to the group announcing that Cabello was leaving, so with that in mind it’s probably going to feel super-awkward to watch given that the performance may not allude to anything unusual happening at all behind the scenes.

Yet, we understand the prerogative of ABC to want to air the show, and it makes sense in every sense of the word for them to do so. The idea of this being one of Fifth Harmony’s last TV appearances as a full group is probably appealing to some, and given that New Year’s Eve is airing on a Friday this year, there may be a sentiment that the broadcast needs whatever ratings it can get.
