‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8: Nina Dobrev not confirmed to return — yet

Delena -

We’re getting set to close out 2016, and here we are once more doing clean-up duty for some stories that are currently floating around the internet.

This particular one relates to a show in “The Vampire Diaries” that many people understandably love, and something that the majority of fans want to see happen before we get to the end of the series: The return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert. It’s not exactly a surprise to anyone that there is interest in seeing her back. She was the start of the show for six years, and when she opted to leave after that, there was some devastation in the air.

Since that time, it’s always been said that she would likely return to see the end of the series out, and we do feel like that this remains the plan moving forward. However, that doesn’t mean that it is 100% for sure happening. There is a rumor that it’s been confirmed now, which seems to be started by an Inquisitr report citing Ian Somerhalder’s recent comments in Variety. However, Ian never says anything in the interview about her returning for sure; he admitted that he doesn’t even know everything about the ending just yet.

If we were to make a guess, we’d say that Dobrev will be back just because she’s aware of how much fans loved her character on the show and what it’d mean for there to be some sort of reunion in the series finale; plus, it’s only a few days to a week at most of her time if this is a fairly small role. She can do that, and then get back to the wide array of other projects that we know she has going on at the moment.
