‘Girl Meets World’ cancellation talk intensifies due to Rider Strong comments

Girl Meets World -

While “Girl Meets World” may not be officially canceled yet over at the Disney Channel just yet, we’re starting to hear more gossip that suggests that we could be nearing the road for the beloved series after three years on the air.

The latest evidence of this very thing comes via Rider Strong, who appeared sporadically on the revival series as Shawn Hunter, Cory Matthews’ longtime best friend who eventually married Maya Hart’s mother Caty. Speaking in a new episode of his Literary Disco podcast, the actor suggests that the show “ended” following season 3 production, which may give yet another hint that there will not be a fourth season on the air no matter how badly we want one to happen.

This news comes after the Canadian version of the Disney Channel recently labeled the upcoming finale “Girl Meets Goodbye” as the series finale before ultimately removing the designation. None of these signs make us altogether confident about the future of the franchise, which was at one point receiving the lion’s share of the buzz going into its premiere. We know that there is some gossip out there among fans about moving it to Freeform or somewhere else where the show can be aged up ever so slightly, but there is not a whole lot of evidence that this is going to actually happen. For the time being, Disney is staying incredibly quiet about everything that is going on when it comes to the future of the show.

What we know at present is that there are three new episodes of “Girl Meets World” still to air next month, including “Girl Meets Sweet Sixteen,” an episode that could leave many of the core characters nostalgic and thinking about their future. You can read a little bit more news about it by heading over to the link here.

Stay tuned, as we plan to have some further updates when it comes to all things “Girl Meets World” over the course of the weeks to come. (Photo: Disney Channel.)
