‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Will Jon Lovitz be a significant winner threat?
When you think about this season of “The Celebrity Apprentice” in terms of big names, Jon Lovitz is one of the guys that you put on the poster. He’s got a long career, is instantly recognized, and is incredibly funny. He’s one of the bigger gets the show has this time, given that he’s not necessarily someone with this huge, robust history doing reality television.
Now that we’ve said that, do we actually think that he will do well in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s season? That is a point of contention that we have to examine further in the latest entry in our show spotlight series below. (Based on the video below, it does like Lovitz’s friendship with the former Governor is one of the reasons why he ended up on the show.)
Claim to Fame – Actor and comedian, best known for being a former cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” (For the record, we actually remember him just as much for “Rat Race,” in our mind one of the most ridiculous and underrated movies ever, as much as anything.)
Charity – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity whose work over the years really does speak for itself.
Strengths – He’s Jon Lovitz! He’s the perfect guy to put outside to draw people in on fundraising tasks, he’s a great voice on any commercial, and he’s someone you want to capitalize on because of his fame and his distinct look and personality. All of those things are huge assets, and you have to look at his background in sketch comedy as a huge advantage during some of the creative tasks. He’s used to making something out of nothing, and he can come up with ideas in an incredibly short amount of time.
Weaknesses – The video below makes it appear as though Lovitz has a real issue with control, and allowing other people to take over a task without his input. Basically, what this means is that if one of his ideas tank, he will be a very easy scapegoat. Sometimes, the best players want to allow other ideas to be used, and then you can throw people under the bus if the moment comes along to do so.
Prediction – Despite our concerns over this video, we do think that Jon can win this show given that he’s incredibly creative, has a unique brand and style that should work well during many of the tasks, and more than likely knows many of people who would be willing to give money during the fundraising tasks. We worry a little about his teamwork skills, but hey, he managed to be just fine on “SNL” for many years. (Also, we love him hitting back at Schwarzenegger in the video.)
