‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 will twist the knife again; another major death coming
Just in case losing Tyler Lockwood earlier this season on “The Vampire Diaries” was not enough for you to pound your head against the nearest wall, the following news may be enough to have you freaking out further.
Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec made it clear that Michael Trevino’s character was not the last prominent person the show would be moving before the series finale — though she didn’t exactly get into further details beyond saying that it would be “painful” and “terrible.” She did, however, talk about how Stefan in particular is going to be increasingly violent in the weeks to come now that the ripper part of his brain has been turned on:
“Stefan’s never been good with temptation while in ripper mode … We know from past experience that Stefan has a threshold, and it’ll be Damon’s job to monitor his brother and make sure he stays on the good side of that threshold. If he crosses it, there’s a risk of losing him forever.”
We’re certainly not altogether surprised that Stefan will have a hard time getting out of this, but now our worst fear is that he will be responsible for killing someone beloved and sending him down a dark spiral that he cannot get out of. We know that there are a contingent of people, Paul Wesley and Ian Somderhalder included, that would be fine seeing Damon and Stefan gone at the end of the series. If that does happen, though, we don’t want it to be the result of something terrible that they do. We’d like to see them go out — provided that they go out at all — as heroes in some shape or form.
The show is going to return with new episodes in early January, and with an episode directed by Somerhalder. From there, there will be episodes every week until we arrive to the end of the line.
