‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: Will Photographer Hailey Merkt capture Nick Viall’s heart?
We’re back with another edition of our “Bachelor” spotlight series, and this time, we’re heading north of the border! We love that this show does welcome Canadian contestants given that no other American reality show really does, and it adds another layer of culture to the overall experience. We almost wish that we could have some other international contenders in here as well, given that love knows no boundaries and it’d be interesting seeing how an Australian, a Mexican, or British contestant would fare in a house full of American women looking for a single man’s affection.
With Hailey Merkt, you have a contestant who to us is pretty interesting — Jennifer Aniston joked during her “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” appearance earlier this month that Hailey looked “unhappy,” which prompted the tweet at the bottom this article. We do think there’s something to her not being for all of the traditional “Bachelor” depictions of love that could make her relatively fascinating to watch.
Age – 23. Age is only a number in some cases, but given that Nick is 36 years old this is one of the larger discrepancies of the season. It really all comes down to maturity.
Occupation – Photographer. Like that it’s a unique job! We wonder if this in part why her photo looks like one of the few this season that could be from some sort of fashion magazine given her pose.
Location – Vancouver, British Columbia. Kaitlyn Bristowe is probably the most famous woman from Vancouver to be on the show, which means that in theory, she could be the next Bachelorette! Probably getting a little bit ahead of ourselves there, but you never know…
Things to know – The most interesting thing about her to us is that she doesn’t consider herself to be all that romantic, which could be a huge problem given that people have to often be overly romantic on this show. Then again, maybe Nick could respond to a more hard-to-get approach? Aside from that, she’s got seven tattoos, claims she can be very intense, but also has a softer, giving side, as she has traveled to China to teach in schools. We know that being charitable is always something that tends to go over well on these shows.
How is she actually going to do? – As we noted, Hailey is interesting from what little we’ve seen given that she’s not similar to many other women personality-wise. We don’t think she’s going to win, but given her apparent disdain for butterflies, may we suggest the man in the video below? Last we heard he was taken for now, but you never know for the future!
