‘Nashville’ season 5, episode 2: A quick taste of what’s coming up
“Nashville” season 5 absolutely went about things in a very different way than usual this year — both on a storytelling and a meta level. They’re on cable, and with that, the writers seem to be happy to embrace some different methods of getting their story out there to the world. The pacing is different, there’ll be different characters, and ultimately we expect things to play out in a way that is a little more experimental. ABC has in our head a little bit more of a form that they like to stay true to, one where they often put out there into the universe the same sort of shock-value storytelling time and time again.
While we had the premiere episode on CMT and its family of networks last week, there was no installment tonight as the network is choosing to let things breathe — and not air the show against Christmas preparations because that just seems almost like a recipe for disaster.
We can, however, start to give you a few more isolated updates regarding what is going to be coming up next, starting with what is the title for the next episode airing in January: “Back in Baby’s Arms.” Obviously you know that Juliette survived the crash, but where does she go from here? Judging from the synopsis below (via SpoilerTV), trying to establish some semblance of peace may be relatively near the top of her priority list:
“Rayna approaches Deacon about making a concept album together; Scarlett can’t trust Gunnar; Juliette seeks out her guardian angel.”
The concept idea sounds interesting, but there is admittedly a part of us that has an opinion on what is coming colored largely thanks to the fact that we know there are only a handful of episodes still to go until Connie Britton may leave the show. We haven’t heard anything regarding a change in that plan.
