‘The Exorcist’ season 2: Many ideas still floating around
The first season of “The Exorcist” ended on Fox this past week, and it did so in a way that did at least offer some closure in the event that there is not any more of the show moving forward. At the moment, the jury there still seems to be out, and we may not know until May precisely what the future holds.
What does seem true is that the powers that be behind the show are definitely interested in keeping it going, and there is a little bit of an idea that is in place already for what could be coming up next. In speaking on this subject a little bit further to Deadline, executive producer Jeremy Slater had the following to say:
“I definitely know where I want to go in Season 2 and what characters I want to take with me. I have a lot of plans, but one lesson that I learned in the course of this season is that it’s great to have big ideas but you have to also have the flexibility to pivot on a dime. I probably had the first half of this season planned out in my mind before we started shooting, but we had no idea what the back half of the season was or how we were going to wrap things up. That was a process of discovery of trusting the writers’ room, trusting the writers, it’s the most gratifying part of a television process for me. I have a 1000 ideas for another season of The Exorcist but I’ve learned to keep my options open so we can really craft it.”
Ultimately, it’s probably best to leave things open so that as more and more people check out the show, more and more ideas can start to form as to where it can go from here. Our sentiment is that so long as it’s scary, and also different from the first season, we’re going to be satisfied. The last thing that you would want, moreover, is another season that is very much like the one you just watched.
