‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 10: Agent Gibbs’ team reveals Ducky’s late mother linked to Navy captain’s death
On Tuesday night the fans of “NCIS” were surprised with a flashback episode looking at Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard’s choices three decades ago. The unique story gave fans quite a bit of new information about the good doctor’s decision to come to America and shared how he made some swift decisions before working at NCIS.
The NCIS team took on their latest case as a Navy captain’s death, who took a ride share service home, was discovered dead with unusual circumstances. The victim never made it back to his home and found dead only five blocks away from kissing his daughter goodnight for the evening. The connection of Dr. Mallard to the killing had fans intrigued. The Navy man had Mallard’s mother’s old address and he was actually seen at the former residence looking for the late woman. The question Agent Gibbs’ team was trying to determine is how the Navy captain was connected to Ducky or his mother.
After searching down all the clues, the team realizes that the first lead of the Captain selling classified information was false. Instead he was a victim in the crime and the investigation would have proven his innocence.
The twists and turns of the episode had fans guessing until the very end on why the Navy captain was killed. What was surprising was who really was planting information on the captain and why. The son-in-law of the victim actually was using his name and information to move information for cash. An easy way to stay out of the shadow, somewhere along the way the captain realized what was happening and took matters into his own hands.
As Dr. Mallard continues to search out all the details, he reflects on all the decisions of the past. One in particular, telling a suitor to leave his mother after finding he was a con-artist, has haunted him for decades. Thinking the man was her soulmate, Ducky’s mom was single for years after coming to America. What he learned from reading her diary (and the fans learned too) was that she did find love again and lived a happy, healthy life after moving to America.
While Agent Gibbs is looking for a killer, he’s still trying to get Senior FBI Agent T.C. Fornell out of his home. Recovering from being shot, Fornell’s daughter puts a plan in action to make Fornell move from Gibbs’ home to return to her house for the holidays. Introducing termites to Gibbs’ home, everyone has to leave for the holidays as the house needs to be exterminated. Leaving Fornell no choice but to go home, he gets a surprise at the end of the episode, too, as Gibbs has to move in with him until all the bugs are gone.
We enjoyed the final moments of the “NCIS” episode on Tuesday night. Seeing the characters come together for the holidays, it was almost picture perfect. Of course, it’s only expected that the NCIS team would celebrate in the autopsy room with Ducky and all his equipment! Episode grade: A-
