‘Outlander’ season 3: Caitriona Balfe reacts to Golden Globe nomination

Claire -

The Golden Globe nominations were officially announced early Monday, and for all fans of “Outlander,” there was some news in particular that was a delight: Seeing Caitriona Balfe nominated in the Actress in a Drama Series category. While both the series and co-star Sam Heughan were unfortunately snubbed, nominations are ultimately bigger than any one person, as they represent everyone who helps that given person make it to that point. It’s also a chance for some added publicity for the show for many people who may not have heard of it — it’s a big country, and strange as it may seem, many of those people are still out there.

While Balfe has been very busy as of late filming the third season, she was still kind enough to issue a statement (per “Entertainment Tonight“) regarding being nominated in this category:

“I am grateful every day that I get to portray a woman who is strong-willed, confident, intelligent, empowered and simply unforgettable. While Outlander is a brilliant period show, Claire represents so many qualities [of a] modern-day woman, someone who is forging her own path, fighting for what she believes and doing so with integrity.

“I am thrilled to be nominated among such an amazing and talented group of women.”

Doe Balfe have a good chance of taking the award home? We certainly believe so, but this is probably the most-competitive actress category we’ve seen in sometime given the power of people like Claire Foy of “The Crown” and Evan Rachel Wood of “Westworld.” When you category is so good that Viola Davis of all people somehow gets snubbed, you know that there is something serious going on.

The third season of “Outlander” premieres at some point in the spring; Starz hasn’t released much on it to date, but wouldn’t it be nice if someone opts to dish out a video clip as a Christmas present? Just throwing that out there to all of the fine folks over at the network.
