‘Madam Secretary’ season 3, episode 9 video: Playing chicken with China

MadamThere are a number of serious issues that are going to be at play as we move forward into Sunday night’s new episode of “Madam Secretary,” but for Elizabeth McCord, one of the primary orders of business is going to be trying to figure out what to do with a complicated Iran deal that has been at the center of the story for a rather long time.

In the first of the new sneak peeks below, you can see specifically Tea Leoni’s character trying to figure out if there is way to ensure that China is properly placated in their efforts to reinstate sanctions against Iran. Unfortunately, it may prove difficult; the actions from the South China Sea are still looming large, and she needs to find a way to give them something so that in turn, they will be willing to give something back. This is where the subject of chicken comes into play. While this issue may seem small-scale in comparison to issuing sanctions against a country, a measure of good faith may still be enough to cause a country to change course and unify with others in the United Nations.

The good news in the second sneak peek is that these chicken negotiations actually turn out to be successful! The news is revealed that we have a victory in the chicken department (never thought we’d write that sentence), and that as a result of that, everyone can now move forward and try to formulate the next move with Iran.

All of this is all the more important when you think for a minute about the election, which on the show is still waiting a vote from Congress. Sam Evans is speaking to anyone and everyone who will listen in the media, and the pressure is therefore on Elizabeth and her team to do what they can in order to ensure that significant progress is made with Iran that they can show to those important people casting votes.
