‘Switched at Birth’ season 5 promo: Who is Bay’s mystery man?

The fifth season of “Switched at Birth” will finally premiere after a ridiculously-long hiatus starting on January 31, and we certainly hope that it will prove itself to be worth the wait.

The one thing that we can say is that when the show does come back, we’re going to have a mystery along right away: Who is the man coming to visit Bay? In the sneak peek below (via Entertainment Weekly), you can see the character talking at length about someone who is coming all the way out to rural China in order to see her. If you remember, she and Daphne made the decision to go to the other side of the world at the end of season 4 to get a fresh start and do some good, and yet, someone from the past is still finding their way out to see the two of them.

As for who this said person is, there are a number of different possibilities given that this preview makes it clear that some time has passed since Bay and Daphne first made the trip out there. For example, we saw signs moving towards a possible Bay / Travis pairing before she decided to leave, and may he’s going to think of coming out there as the great “grand gesture” that will help her to realize precisely how much he really cares about her. Or, you can suspect that maybe it’s her former love Emmett; at one point, the two did have a really great relationship, but there were a number of things that went awry that caused the two to split.

We suppose that it is possible in theory that this mystery arrival could be a new character, but at the same time, we’re not sure that makes a whole lot of sense given that you would want for the arrival to be someone who is familiar to viewers already — otherwise, it’d have to be some sort of long-distance love that we weren’t clued in on at all before the hiatus.
