Ratings: ‘The Flash’ winter finale falls; ‘This Is Us’ ticks up; ‘Chicago Fire’ steady for 100th episode

Flash -

For the first time in what seems to be almost weeks, we had a rare gift across broadcast TV Tuesday night: A lineup featuring almost entirely new episodes of some of your favorite shows! This means we’ve got a considerable amount to discuss here, so let’s go ahead and dive into much of it.

CBS – “NCIS” started off the night sliding a little bit to a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, but the good news is that in this instance, that didn’t end up setting a tone for the rest of the night. Both “Bull” (1.5) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (1.2) ended up matching their own most-recent ratings, which puts all of the shows on fine footing heading into their next new episodes in a week.

NBC – While “The Voice” (1.9) managed to hold onto much of last week’s results-show audience, “This Is Us” (2.8) continued to do its thing and dominate, ticking up ever so slightly from this past episode while also getting another season high in total viewers out of the way with almost 11 million people watching. Given the consistent performance all season, we imagine a season 2 renewal will be confirmed over the coming weeks.

Finally, kudos to “Chicago Fire” for scoring a solid 1.7 rating for its 100th episode, a show of consistency that we imagine the network remains happy to have.

ABC – Not a great night to be one of their comedies, given that “The Middle” (1.4), “American Housewife” (1.4), “Fresh Off the Boat” (1.1), and “The Real O’Neals” (0.8) each fell versus their previous numbers. Meanwhile, “Agents of SHIELD” did a better job of holding onto the entirety of its 0.8 rating, even if that’s not a particular great figure.

Fox – “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (1.0) and “New Girl” (0.8) continue to do their part to distract you from how terrible ratings are for “Scream Queens” (0.5). We do really like this show, but at the same time these ratings are almost sure to get it canceled.

The CW – After understandably surging for the crossover event, “The Flash” did slide back to Earth a little bit, scoring a 1.2 rating for its winter finale. Finally, “No Tomorrow” (0.3) continued to keep its own small-but-consistent rating. (Photo: The CW.)
