TV Quick Hits: ‘Legion’ premiere date, trailer; ‘Big Little Lies’ trailer; Fuse’s comedy lineup

FX -For this new edition of TV Quick Hits, we’re going to be talking rather extensively about trailers for part of it, and that begins with FX’s foray into the superhero world in “Legion.” The series, starring “Downton Abbey” alum Dan Stevens and from “Fargo” executive producer Noah Hawley, is going to be coming on the air starting on Wednesday, February 8 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.

The official logline from the network does a remarkable job of setting up in particular what this story is all about:

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which David must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. “

It’s not entirely clear how this will be connected to any other superhero series out there, but remember that the complicated studio connections with this and other Marvel series are still very much at play — don’t expect a crossover with “Agents of SHIELD” in the near future.

The latest trailer for “Legion” can be found below. As for some other news from today…

Big Little Lies” trailer – Also premiering in February is HBO’s new super-ambitious (and murderous) limited series with an incredible cast: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper and Zoë Kravitz are just some of the notable names. This is the sort of show that is far more than what a trailer will present, mostly because an idyllic setting will find itself turned on its head.

Prepare to laugh on Fuse  – We all need a little bit of comedy in our lives, right? 2016 certainly has done its part to make that more of a necessity than ever. Come Friday, December 9 at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time, you could have a chance to see some of that as Fuse airs “Margaret Cho: PsyCHO.” Half an hour before that at 11:00, you can see even more comedy courtesy of “Uproarious,” which will feature stand-up from Gabe Dinger, Kelsey Cook and Shane Torres. (You can see more about “Uproarious” by visiting this link.) Consider some of this a chance to mix things up if you’re looking to get a few laughs while in the process of wrapping some Christmas gifts or are looking for a way to wind down after a busy day.

“Humans” premiere date – Finally, a quick note that season 2 of the science fiction series will premiere on AMC come February 13. (Photo: FX.)
